Chris van Zyl is an audio engineer and guitar technician from Somerset West, Cape Town. Chris started his audio career as a volunteer techie at his church. At the time, Chris was also a musician, playing in several bands and performed as a session musician. After Studying Audio Engineering and Music Production, Chris pushed toward music production and studio work. With his experience as a musician and Audio engineer, his knowledge and skill opened doors to operate as an Audio Consultant. The goal is to help Studio’s, artists and venues achieve the greatest product tailored to their setup and needs.
Chris studied Audio Engineering in 2011 at Collage of Audio Engineering. Chris is a proficient engineer on ProTools, Logic, Ableton, Garageband, FL Studio and MainStage. Being in a creative content environment, he has also explored the video industry. Chris knows his way around Final Cut Pro and DaVinchi Studios.
In 2018, Chris officially took over the technical and repair centre for musical instruments from a local music shop and has been running Chrisvzmusic Guitar Technician services. ChrisvzMusic Guitar technician offer guitar repairs and custom cables and pedals . Currently, Chris is focusing on music production, consultation and broadcast audio.
Chris is also the Music Director for his church. This is involving producing multi-media content for more than 12 programs and 4 live broadcast per week, across multiple channels.
Chris has racked up more than 15 years of experience in various fields in the audio industry. His passion for music, playing and producing has lead him to work with some of the most amazing artists and projects. Chrisvzmusic has been involved in international projects such as Mixing and Mastering for the Rio 2020 Music Festival.
Chris & SoundDex
During the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic, Chris reached out to Grant Harris, with the idea to create an online platform to help promote the sound engineers of South Africa. Discovering they shared a mutual passion and drive to help the community, SoundDex was born.
Having all the answers is not possible, but Chris is driven to always increase his knowledge, work harder and push the limits to help every engineer, studio or project reach their full audio potential.
